about

This song, "Step By Step," was one of the last written for Fannie Lou. In the musical it is sung by Minister Young, a clerical apprentice, at a time when doubts about the struggle begin to overwhelm him, and he has an unsettling premonition. In the production, Minister Young sings only part of the song -- he's interrupted by Rev. Hill before completing it. Also, "Step By Step" is one of the many wonderful songs in the musical that is not included in the selected music and dialogue for the performance of "Scenes and Songs from Fannie Lou." In addition, this is a unique arrangement of the song, not intended for the production. So for now, this is the only place you'll be able to get this version of "Step by Step." "STEP BY STEP" lyrics
(from the new musical Fannie Lou)

[Verse 1]
Step by step, I'm
Marching forward
On my way
To Calvary

I will be there
I will see Him
See the man
From Galilee

I will witness
As they nail Him
To the Cross
And I'll
Tell the story

(Of how) Step by step I
Marched to see Him
And I saw
Him
Die for me

[Verse 2]
Inch by inch, I'm
Getting closer
On my way
To Calvary

I can almost
Almost touch Him
Touch the Man
From Galilee

I will witness my Lord suffering
On the Cross
And I'll
Tell the story

Of how step by step, I
Marched to see him
And I saw
Him
Die for me

[Repeat Verse 1]
Oh, step by step, I'm
Marching forward
On my way
To Calvary

I will be there
I will see Him
See the man
From Galilee

I will witness
As they nail Him
To the Cross
And I'll
Tell the story

(Of how) Step by step I
Marched to see Him
And I saw
Him
Die for me
